Job Description:
The AI Architect will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing development of ITS AI infrastructure and services in support of LSU’s research, teaching, and operational needs. Work closely with researchers, faculty, staff, and campus partners to assess requirements, develop AI solutions, and deploy AI tools and services.
Job Responsibilities:
Consultation and collaboration: Engage with researchers and department heads to assess AI-related needs and offer tailored guidance and support. Identify opportunities where AI technologies can improve research, teaching, service delivery, or operational efficiency. Collaborate with researchers to assist with developing and maintaining AI services, including data acquisition, preprocessing, model training, and deployment. Research, evaluate, and recommend AI services models that meet business objectives and performance requirements. Work with customers and stakeholders to understand their AI requirements and provide guidance on how AI can be used to improve institutional goals. (35%)
Technical support: Design, deploy, and support AI computing environments across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure. Research, recommend, and implement AI tools and applications, and serve as a primary technical liaison for supported platforms and services. Assist researchers and campus users with setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of AI computing environments, including HPC systems, cloud services, containers, and specialized software. Collaborate with the HPC team and other ITS units on shared infrastructure and service delivery. (35%)
Data management: Support the effective use of secure, cloud, on-premises, and open computing and storage environments for AI workloads. Advise users on data handling, storage, movement, and operational considerations related to AI workflows. Help ensure AI services are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with institutional practices for security, access, and sustainability. (20%)
Service Development and Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging AI technologies, platforms, and practices relevant to higher education and research computing. Contribute to service planning, documentation, and technical decision-making for ITS AI offerings. Help define and improve processes, standards, and support models for AI services as the program matures. Perform other duties as assigned. (10%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 3 years IT experience with a variety of technologies including AI infrastructure/architecture, managing compute and storage, networking, using and recommending applications, researching solutions for customer use. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of researchers. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. 5 years experience upporting AI/ML, HPC, GPU-enabled computing, or research computing services in higher education, research, or enterprise environments. Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks, containers, APIs, model deployment workflows, and related tooling. Experience with both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure for AI or advanced computing workloads. Experience providing consultation, training, or technical guidance to researchers or other advanced users. Familiarity with data security, access controls, and operational considerations for sensitive or regulated workloads.
