AI Governance Analyst
About the Role
An AI Governance Analyst helps an organization build, monitor, and improve the policies, controls, and oversight structures that ensure artificial intelligence systems are safe, ethical, compliant, and aligned with business goals. This role sits at the intersection of technology, policy, and risk management, making it ideal for someone who can think analytically, communicate clearly, and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Policy Development & Compliance
• Draft, refine, and maintain internal AI governance policies, standards, and procedures.
• Translate emerging regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. AI Executive Orders, NIST AI RMF) into actionable internal requirements.
• Conduct compliance assessments for AI systems across the organization.
2. Risk Assessment & Mitigation
• Evaluate AI models and use cases for risks related to fairness, privacy, security, transparency, and societal impact.
• Support model risk management processes, including documentation, validation, and lifecycle monitoring.
• Recommend mitigation strategies and track remediation progress
3. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
• Partner with data science, engineering, legal, cybersecurity, and product teams to embed governance controls into AI development workflows.
• Facilitate AI review boards or model approval committees.
• Provide guidance to teams on responsible AI best practices.
4. Monitoring & Reporting
• Develop metrics and dashboards to track AI system performance, compliance status, and governance maturity.
• Prepare reports for leadership, auditors, and regulators.
• Conduct periodic audits of AI systems to ensure ongoing adherence to policies.
5. Research & Thought Leadership
• Stay current on global AI regulations, standards, and industry trends.
• Analyze new developments and advise leadership on strategic implications.
• Contribute to training materials and awareness programs on responsible AI.
In essence, this role operationalizes governance on a daily basis; intake, risk, controls, so the program can scale across all the AI workflows without being bottlenecked.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, public policy, law, ethics, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, even if not a hands‑on model builder.
• Experience with risk management, compliance, or policy development.
• Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework or ISO/IEC 42001.
• Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government, etc.).
• Understanding of data governance, privacy laws, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
• Prior work with model documentation tools or AI auditing processes.
