Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Assistant Director, Science Learning Center - Boca Raton, FL.

The Assistant Director in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) oversees all academic support and daily operations based in the Science Learning Center (SLC). Reporting to the Executive Director, Academic Support and Student Success, the Assistant Director primarily focuses on recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising a large team of undergraduate and graduate students who support students enrolled in difficult science courses. Responsible for guiding center strategy, interdepartmental collaborations, and faculty relationship management. Ensures a high level of collaboration with colleagues overseeing other academic support areas in the CTL. Provides experience in educational assessment, higher education leadership, and learning center management.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Manage all daily operations of Florida Atlantic’s Science Learning Center (SLC), a highly utilized center within the Center for Teaching and Learning’s (CTL) academic support portfolio.                                                                                                        
• Assist the department in recruiting, hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating a large team of undergraduate and graduate student workers, with a focus on positions that provide science course-based academic support services. 
• Develop and foster strong rapport with science faculty to enhance the portfolio of services offered in the center.
• Complete detailed documentation of semesterly center operations, assessment of learning, and outcome/impact reports, presenting findings to CTL leadership and other stakeholders. 
• Incorporate educational technology or other learning tools into academic support programming, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Learning Management Systems (LMS), immersive technology (VR/AR), and assessment systems. 
• Contribute to the department’s efforts to certify all tutorial staff through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) and to certify all Supplemental Instruction Staff through the International Center for Supplemental Instruction (ICSI).
• Collaborate with center and divisional leadership to plan, implement, and assess the delivery of academic support services to FTIC students participating in Jump Start and STEM bridge, especially SI and tutoring for courses assigned to the center.
• Perform additional job-related duties and provide assistance to the department’s entire portfolio of academic support programs as required (such as scheduling space on campus for exam reviews, basic data entry and analysis, creating flyers or copies, and collaborating with various departments to provide support, etc.)
• Work collaboratively with others in the division to represent the broader Center for Teaching and Learning at new student orientations, admissions events, etc.
• Present at regional or national conferences and write articles related to learning center leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Must be comfortable supervising student staff and working in a highly collaborative work environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for success in this position.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.

Willingness to become adept in existing and emerging educational and instructional technologies.

Salary:

$65,000 annually.
