Position Overview:
Motiva is seeking an Associate Control Systems Engineer to join the Technology team at our Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex. This role supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated control systems, including process control, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and analytical instrumentation across plant operations. This role offers the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in control systems and instrumentation while contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient production. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to troubleshoot systems, support projects, and ensure compliance with HSSE and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated control and instrumentation systems.
• Support development and tuning of control algorithms for process optimization.
• Troubleshoot control system and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.
• Provide engineering support for day-to-day operations and routine process activities.
• Contribute to small capital and expense project design and execution.
• Support reactive maintenance and resolution of unplanned operational issues.
• Participate in risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety reviews for equipment and processes.
• Assist in turnaround planning, scope development, and execution activities.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and operators while participating in training and continuous learning programs.
Experience and Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering by May 2026
• Cumulative 3.0 GPA, or higher
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Effective communication with all levels of organization
• Effective teamwork in cross-functional situations
Preferred Qualifications
• 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience
Physical Requirements:
• Due to safety sensitive nature of job, must pass annual respirator fit testing
• Move up to 40 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects
• Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.)
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
