Job Description
About the Role
The Audience Data Analysis Intern is an opportunity, funded by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Science Initiative to support students aspiring to work in museums and provide them with hands on experience in a museum setting with professionals in data management and analysis on ensuring timely and accurate data analysis to support The Huntington's first ever member and visitor-focused self service portal.
The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a 9-week, part-time opportunity from June 1 – July 31, perfect for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in data analysis or customer relationship management (CRM) administration.
S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.
Essential Duties
• Participate in Internship programming led by the Internship Coordinator
• Create and present a final project based on the work done during the 9 week internship.
• The Huntington will launch for the first time a member and visitor-focused self service portal where users may see upcoming and past reservations, purchase/renew/upgrade membership, and edit limited contact information. The engine of a successful launch and adoption by the public and staff requires timely and dependable data from multiple sources aggregated and transformed for a specific goal. The project combines regular data hygiene tasks such as identifying potential dupes and cleaning inaccurate data, documentation of the initial launch processes and decisions, and working with client departments to improve on their experience and use of the system.
• The final project will be creating a test script or report for spot checking data cleanliness in an area identified and refined by the candidate.
Weekly tasks:
• Work with the Salesforce Specialist to identify potential duplicate contacts in the audience data hub (Salesforce), investigate potential root causes, and make a case for relevant and accurate merges where indicated.
• Reformat and clean data exported from related databases.
• Document processes including data definitions, data crosswalks between integrated systems, and reporting criteria.
• Validate reports in our data analytics tool and create new visualizations and dashboards to address departmental requirements.
• Assist client departments with reporting requests.
• May perform other related duties as assigned
Candidate Requirements and Experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Must be a current university student or recent graduate (1 year max).
• Strong ability to work independently.
• Strong communication skills using Microsoft Teams, Outlook or equivalent programs.
• Excellent documentation abilities.
• Familiarity with audience data, reporting and list generation.
• Ability and willingness to apply analytical skills related to data hygiene and governance tasks.
Preferred:
• Have an interest in cultural heritage organizations and sites.
• Have an interest in audience data and/or customer relationship management.
• Experience with Excel, SQL, Python, automation flows or equivalent data analysis programs.

Internship Eligibility
• Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students (minimum age 18) whose field of study aligns with the internship opportunity.
• This internship is available to Los Angeles area residents.
• The Huntington will not sponsor J-1 visas for internship participants at this time.
