ABOUT THE COMPANY

Pragmatike is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing, early-stage European startup building an API-first SaaS platform.

The company is developing developer-focused infrastructure products, with a strong emphasis on scalability, performance, and real-time processing. The product is already in the market, and the team is now focused on scaling the backend systems and expanding core capabilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer who is a strong builder and comfortable working in a modern AI-assisted development environment (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).

This is a hands-on role focused on building and scaling backend systems, APIs, and infrastructure. You’ll work closely with a small team to ship quickly, improve system performance, and design scalable architectures.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

- Build and scale backend services and APIs powering the core product

- Design systems that handle real-time processing and high-throughput workloads

- Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of the platform

- Work on data flows, async processing, and system integrations

- Contribute to infrastructure and deployment pipelines

- Use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) to accelerate development and iteration

- Collaborate closely with engineers and founders on architecture and technical decisions

WHAT YOU BRING

- 4+ years of backend engineering experience

- Strong experience building and shipping production systems

- Proficiency in backend development (language-agnostic mindset; Node.js, Python, Go, etc.)

- Experience with APIs, distributed systems, and scalable architectures

- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar)

- Comfort working in an AI-assisted coding workflow (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, etc.)

- Solid understanding of system design, performance, and reliability

- Ability to work autonomously in a small, fast-moving team

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience with real-time systems or event-driven architectures

- Familiarity with media processing, automation, or bot systems

- Experience with message queues, caching, and async workflows

- Exposure to low-level performance optimization or systems programming

- Startup or early-stage experience
