Job Description
We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Please note that we are not currently hiring fully remote positions. All candidates must have the ability to work in one of our tech offices. Our tech office for this role is in Lansing, Michigan only.
Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our IT Division as an Architect. Responsibilities include analyzing business problems, developing project plans, designing automated system solutions, and leading implementation teams. Work is performed in a manner that is consistent with standards, best practices, and procedures required by the department and is performed with limited supervision. Architects are expected to exhibit high levels of initiative, motivation, and leadership and a have a solid understanding of monitoring tools and system tuning to achieve desired performance results. The position requires the person to:
• Analyze information, logically solve problems, use structured analysis and design methodologies, handle project leadership responsibilities, and document project plans and status reports
• Communicate effectively with team members, users, and management
• Review project assignments with management or other team members
• Lead and actively participate in code/design reviews as well as brainstorming sessions
• Consult with users, analysts, architects, project leaders and management to resolve problems and suggest alternatives
• Maintain an awareness of the current architecture, systems, and programming techniques both within and outside the insurance industry
• Develop project plans and timelines by planning and directing the analysis, design, and implementation phases of system projects
• Assist in training and mentoring team members
• Monitor system(s) and suggest adjustments to achieve desired performance results
• Assist with other duties as assigned within the department or elsewhere upon request
Desired Skills and Experience
• The Education Requirements for a Sr. Software Developer in the IT Division must be satisfied.
• Completion of an additional Auto-Owners approved IT certification is preferred. This requirement may be waived with a proven track record in multiple programming languages or technologies, hardware and supporting departments, or software development roles on multiple programming teams.
• A minimum of two years overall proven performance as a Senior Software Developer or the equivalent job experience: a proven track record in multiple programming languages or technologies, infrastructure support roles, or software development roles on multiple programming teams. This requirement may be waived with the completion of an additional Auto-Owners approved IT certification.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with projects and/or team responsibilities.
• A track record of solid architecture design of large changes to existing applications
• Willing to work outside the normal business hours and travel as needed
