Job Description:
National Geographic is seeking a technically skilled and intellectually curious Data Platforms Analyst to help power our data-driven decision-making and audience strategy across its subscription business. This role supports the architecture, optimization and governance of National Geographic’s consumer data platforms, ensuring data is accurate, scalable and actionable across the organization.
Working at the intersection of data engineering and applied analytics, this role assists in the development of data pipelines, creation of behavioral segments and the operationalization of machine learning outputs that inform marketing, retention and personalization efforts. Collaborating with teams across National Geographic and Disney, this position will help translate business needs into technical solutions.
The ideal candidate is passionate about data infrastructure, eager to learn about machine learning applications and committed to finding new ways of leveraging data to drive measurable business comes across marketing, subscription and engagement initiatives. They should possess a strong understanding of business objectives and demonstrate the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain clean, reusable data models for reporting and forecasting
• Support the build-out of CI/CD and testing practices for data workflows
• Translate stakeholder requirements into structured analytics layers
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, data scientists and data engineers to prepare and monitor ML features
• Document processes, contribute to governance, and ensure data quality
Basic Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in data analytics, data operations or marketing analytics, ideally with a subscription, media or digital consumer business
• 2+ years experience in SQL and Python
• Exposure to Spark and Databricks
• Familiarity with dbt or other transformation frameworks
• Experience validating and reconciling ingested data (schema drift, nulls, bad joins).
• Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, PowerBI)
• Basic understanding of Git workflows and CI/CD
• Comfort working with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical findings to non-technical partners.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Candidates must be based within a reasonable commuting distance of our Washington, D.C. office, as this role requires on-site presence four days per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Fivetran/Airbyte or other ELT tools (or at least willingness to learn).
• Familiarity with SaaS APIs
• Interest in ML/AI and willingness to learn model deployment practices
Required Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Quantitative field (e.g. Statistics, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering) , or equivalent/related degree is preferred
The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C. is $87,100 to $116,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
