Data Science at Digital Turbine is about mixing technical prowess with creativity in one of the most exciting frontiers: mobile advertising. On any given day, we work with probabilistic graphical models, Bayesian methods, collaborative filtering, and other modern machine learning methodologies to power performance advertising at massive scale.

About the Data Scientist role:

• Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues Determines a course of action based on guidelines and modifies processes and methods as required Works on problems of moderate scope which are often varied and routine, where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors

• Develop and apply statistical and machine learning techniques to deliver insights into mobile performance data (forecasting, prediction, ranking, and optimization problems)

• Translate unstructured business problems into well‑structured mathematical formulations, data flows, and model designs

• Build, evaluate, and iterate on models such as regression, classification, uplift models, and clustering; support occasional use of advanced approaches (eg, ensemble methods, basic deep learning)

• Design and operate experimental and testing environments (A/B tests, offline experiments) for investigating new algorithmic methods

• Collaborate with Product Management, Technology, and Business stakeholders to identify opportunities where models can drive value (eg, better bidding, fraud detection, user value prediction)

• Communicate technical methods and results clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

• Work with data engineering partners to move successful prototypes toward production‑grade implementations

About You as the Data Scientist:

• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action

• Applies learned techniques and contributes to analysis and investigation to solve problems

• Normally receives little instruction on day‑to‑day work and general instructions on new assignments

• Builds productive internal/external working relationships to resolve mutual problems by collaborating on models, experiments, and data pipelines

• Focuses on providing standard professional advice and creating initial analyses and reports for review by senior data scientists

• Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related discipline required; PhD preferred but not required

• 2+ years of experience in data mining, information retrieval, analytics, or related data science roles

• Strong foundation in statistics and experience with forecasting, predictive modeling, and experimental design

• Hands‑on experience applying machine learning techniques (eg, gradient boosting, random forests, logistic regression, matrix factorization) to real‑world problems

• Ability to communicate and document statistical methods and analyses in a logical and understandable manner for varying audiences

• Proficiency in Python or R for data science, along with SQL for data retrieval and aggregation

• Familiarity with big data environments and distributed data platforms (eg, Spark, Hadoop) is strongly preferred

• Demonstrated ability to work productively with team members and resolve tough issues in a collaborative and respectful manner
