About this role
The Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing large-scale datasets and developing predictive models to optimize user engagement and retention in our mobile applications. This role works cross-functionally with Product and Engineering teams to optimize user retention and mobile app performance by supporting data-driven decision-making. This role combines technical data science experience, knowledge of mobile app metrics, and experience in BigQuery to help optimize user experiences and support data-driven growth. The Data Scientist provides data solutions that equip teams and ministries to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ.

What You’ll Do
Analyze data and develop data-driven solutions.
• Analyze user behavior, engagement, and app performance using BigQuery.
• Develop metrics and KPIs to monitor user acquisition, retention, and in-app behaviors.
• Conduct funnel analysis, cohort analysis, and segmentation studies to uncover growth opportunities.
• Support the development of predictive models to improve app personalization, content recommendations, and ad targeting.
• Assist in modeling churn prediction, user segmentation, and LTV estimation.
• Utilize BigQuery ML and other cloud-based tools to deploy models efficiently.
• Participate in the design and analysis of A/B tests for new features and marketing strategies.
• Apply statistical techniques to interpret results and draw conclusions.
Collaborate with YouVersion teams and communicate data findings.
• Collaborate with teams to implement experimentation best practices.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to maintain ETL pipelines and ensure data quality.
• Support data validation and standardization processes for mobile app datasets.
• Build dashboards and reports using tools like Looker or Tableau to communicate findings.
• Present analytical insights and recommendations to product and marketing stakeholders.
Skills Needed to Succeed
• Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems with innovation.
• Effective at multi-tasking and time management to meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to clearly explain complicated processes and foster partnerships.
• Effective at process and organizational management to coordinate, structure, and provide vision to projects.
• Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others.
• Familiarity with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.
• Understanding of mobile app analytics, including metrics related to engagement and retention.
• Exposure to app tracking tools like Firebase, Adjust, or AppsFlyer.
• Exposure to additional Google Cloud tools (e.g., Dataflow, Pub/Sub) preferred.
• Knowledge of experimental design, causal inference, or mobile marketing analytics preferred.Interest in app store optimization (ASO) and growth experimentation preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
• 2-4 years of experience in data science or analytics, mobile app data experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Google BigQuery and SQL.
• Experience with Python or R for data analysis and machine learning.
