The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a diverse mix of analytical instruments and associated services to a broad range of end user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Energy, Mining, Life Science Manufacturing and Recycling, to name a few. Its instruments are deployed in the field and on the line, in challenging environments where customers put a premium on robustness, reliability and ease of use. They allow them to make decisions where they operate and streamline their businesses. CAD is a complex division with a global footprint, broad product portfolio and diverse customer base.

Within our EMEA Production Process & Analytics Business Unit we are looking for an experienced and motivated Field Service Engineer, product line Gauging for Thickness and Basis Weight Measurement (Web link: www.thermofisher.com/gauging) and if required extending to other product lines and/or applications.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will install, maintain and troubleshoot advanced gauging and process analytics systems in industrial environments. You will work directly at customer sites across Europe and ensure reliable system performance and high customer satisfaction.

This is a hands-on role combining electrical, mechanical and software-related troubleshooting with strong customer interaction.
We are open to both experienced professionals and motivated junior technicians, provided a strong technical foundation and willingness to learn.

Your Responsibilities:

• Installation, commissioning and service of gauging and measurement systems
• Troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical and sensor-based systems
• Preventive maintenance, calibration and system optimization
• On-site customer support and technical training
• Service documentation and reporting
• Close collaboration with engineering, factory and commercial teams
• Identify service, upgrade or spare part opportunities at customer sites

Your Profile:

Technical Background

• Technician (e.g. state-certified technician) or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Mechatronics
• Junior candidates are welcome (e.g. recent graduates from technical schools) with strong motivation and learning ability

Experience & Skills

• Experience in field service, maintenance or industrial technical service is an advantage
• Strong troubleshooting skills in electro-mechanical systems
• Understanding of sensor technology, measurement systems and basic industrial automation (PLC awareness)
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
• Hands-on mindset and willingness to work in industrial environments

Radiation & Safety

• Willingness to work with ionizing radiation systems (X-ray / isotope-based)
• No prior experience required – training will be provided
• High awareness for safety and compliance

Soft Skills

• Strong customer communication skills
• Ability to work independently under pressure
• Team player with close collaboration with internal teams
• Structured and solution-oriented working style

Additional Requirements

• Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus)
• Willingness to travel extensively across Europe
• High flexibility, including travel on short notice when required
• Valid driver’s license required for independent travel to customer sites
