Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a hands‑on Model‑Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) with strong proficiency in Cameo Systems Modeler to support DoD system development and integration efforts. This position is intended for engineers transitioning from applied MBSE training directly into operational program environments.
The ideal candidate is a working modeler—someone who can build, maintain, and evolve system models that directly support engineering execution, technical decision‑making, and communication across stakeholder communities—while applying foundational systems engineering principles.
This role includes working in conjunction with a systems engineer to help establish and mature a model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) approach that supports program execution and long‑term engineering needs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and update SysML‑based system models using Cameo Systems Modeler
• Apply MBSE practices to support:
• Requirements decomposition and traceability
• Functional, logical, and system architecture development
• Interface identification and analysis
• Verification and validation planning
• Use system models to support real engineering decisions, not just documentation
• Collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, and domain experts to ensure models reflect current system intent and engineering priorities, while improving or reshaping existing engineering workflows when model‑based approaches provide clear benefit
• Partner with a systems engineer to initiate, grow, and sustain a model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) implementation, including establishing initial modeling scope, structure, conventions, and intended usage aligned with program needs
• Support technical reviews, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings (TIMs) using model‑based artifacts
• Maintain model integrity, consistency, and configuration control in accordance with program standards
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly through diagrams, views, and model‑based products
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or associate degree with relevant experience OR completion of a 2‑year Systems Engineering Technology (SET) or equivalent applied MBSE program
• Demonstrated experience developing system models using Cameo Systems Modeler
• Working knowledge of SysML, including:
• Block Definition Diagrams (BDD)
• Internal Block Diagrams (IBD)
• Activity, sequence, and requirements diagrams
• Understanding of core systems engineering principles, including:
• Requirements management
• System decomposition and architecture
• Interfaces and system boundaries
• System lifecycle considerations
• Ability to apply engineering concepts in a practical, project‑driven environment
Desired Qualifications
• Experience supporting DoD or defense acquisition programs
• Familiarity with digital engineering concepts and practices
• Exposure to:
• Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), DoDAF, or similar frameworks
• Model reuse, patterning, or model governance concepts
• Tool integrations such as Teamwork Cloud, Jira, or similar
• Experience supporting program execution rather than academic or research‑focused modeling efforts
• Experience using GitLab
Other Requirements:
Security Clearance
• Secret clearance required; candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a clearance.
