Knowledge Management Consultant - Contract
About this role
Hi. We’re Hummingbird.
We’re elevating patient access so patients can get healthcare how, when, and where they need it. We partner with healthcare systems to transform how patients access care, enabling their providers to focus on what matters most – caring for patients. By managing patient access as a technology-enabled service, we help health systems stabilize costs and improve patient experience while creating good jobs that attract and retain talent in the industry. Our team of experts is obsessed with the connection between the people, processes, and technology that make healthcare organizations hum. Join us and help build the healthcare experience we want for our communities, our families, and ourselves.
Summary
Transform fragmented healthcare knowledge into systems that surface the right answer at the right moment—so teams can focus on patients, not searching.
As a Knowledge Management Consultant at Hummingbird, you'll own the design, build, and implementation of SharePoint-based knowledge systems for complex healthcare patient access operations. You're the person who walks into a world of PDFs, printed binders, and tribal know-how and walks out leaving a scalable, governed, digital knowledge hub that frontline teams actually love and clinics actually keep informed.
Most of your day is a mix of leading client discovery, shaping taxonomy and site architecture, configuring SharePoint, collaborating with IT teams on integrations, and coaching KMS Analysts through the work. You'll manage multiple concurrent client engagements with a high degree of independence, operating as a trusted expert for both internal teammates and client stakeholders across all levels of leadership.
This role sits at the intersection of healthcare operations, content strategy, change management, and emerging technology. You'll ensure knowledge content is structured not just for human navigation, but for AI-assisted retrieval, including real-time knowledge surfacing through integrations with telephony platforms like Genesys or TalkDesk.
If you love turning ambiguous, complex problems into clear, practical systems, and you have the SharePoint depth, knowledge management chops, and client presence to pull it off, you'll feel right at home here.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Knowledge System Design and Build
• Lead the full KMS design lifecycle: stakeholder focus groups, prototype development, taxonomy design, style guides, and governance framework creation.
• Build and configure SharePoint-based environments, including page architecture, audience groupings, metadata, JSON/HTML customization, content workflows, and user permissions.
• Ensure knowledge content is properly segmented, tagged, and structured to support both human navigation and AI retrieval.
• Collaborate with client IT teams to configure platform integrations, including API connections to telephony platforms (Genesys, TalkDesk) for real-time, AI-assisted knowledge surfacing.
Methodology-Based Problem Solving
• Solve defined client and internal problems by applying Hummingbird’s established methodologies and best practices.
• Assess situations across people, process, and technology to identify root causes and viable solution paths.
• Develop clear, evidence-based recommendations that align to agreed scope and intended outcomes.
• Ensure problem solving is grounded in how Hummingbird has designed its services to work, when applicable.
• Anchor solutions in Hummingbird’s mission, vision, and values.
Client Engagement and Delivery
• Own delivery across multiple concurrent client KMS implementations, coordinating tasks, dependencies, and communication across internal team members and client stakeholders.
• Lead structured discovery to assess client KMS capabilities, content workflows, taxonomy health, and adoption gaps, then synthesize findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Proactively surface risks and lead resolution, including hard deadlines like platform retirements, staying ahead of dependencies before they become blockers.
• Over-communicate progress and prototype decisions with team leadership before advancing to full build phases.
Change Management and Adoption
• Drive change management efforts that move client teams from legacy, paper-based workflows or classic SharePoint to digital knowledge management with modern tools, including grassroots adoption strategies and user engagement programs.
• Establish content governance frameworks, including validation processes, change control workflows, and mechanisms for end-user feedback and contribution.
• Communicate updates clearly and confirm consistent execution across the team.
Performance and Continuous Improvement
• Partner with stakeholders to define KMS engagement outcomes and adoption indicators; design and maintain performance scorecards and reporting templates to evaluate system health and user adoption.
• Use data-driven insights to recommend course corrections and continuously improve knowledge systems.
• Contribute to the refinement of Hummingbird's KMS methodologies and performance tracking practices across the team.
• Mentor KMS Analysts through feedback, context-sharing, and practical coaching on knowledge management methods and SharePoint development.
• Guide others in problem-solving approaches that reflect Hummingbird's mission, vision, and values.
