A Product Engineer, also known as a Product Design Engineer, is responsible for evaluating product requirements, participating in design development, and influencing the manufacturing process towards ensuring products meet customer expectations, requirements, and business goals. The product engineer operates at the intersection of engineering, product management, and manufacturing, driving technical feasibility, scalability, and operational reliability throughout the product lifecycle.
Product Engineers combine technical expertise, creativity, and managerial skills to deliver high-quality products that align with business objectives. This role is critical for ensuring product success, customer satisfaction, and pushing a competitive advantage.
Product Engineer activities generally lie within influencing designs for Manufacturability, Testability, and Supportability. Through bridging customer needs as the liaison between design engineering, production, and aftermarket teams, with manufacturing process insight to ensure high-quality, market-ready solutions across the supplier base.
Our Mission is to influence the design while in the design phase to support a seamless transition into a production environment. In production we are the keepers of the design tasked with maintaining it throughout the end user Life Cycle
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Design and Development:
• Working with design engineering and manufacturing facility counterparts, towards influencing designs for Manufacturability, Testability, and Supportability processes using standard work methodology and instructions.
Product & Production Support:
• Interdepartmental participation/collaboration placing select designs into manufacturing facilities ensuring those suppliers are set up for success meeting build & test requirements (product/process walks).
• Participate in product design investigations utilizing various lean tools.
• Identify and troubleshoot design flaws implementing solutions to enhance product performance, testability, and/or manufacturability.
• Support product and test equipment design changes for proactive obsolescence management, product improvement, and cost-out activities.
• Orchestrate design changes during production phase.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with program managers, product/project managers, designers, and engineering teams.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
• Conduct rigorous testing to ensure products meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Support Qualification Testing.
Project Management:
• This position will be assigned to a product line entailing project management, prioritizing tasks, estimating technical effort, managing timelines, working and collaborating with other team members and department leaders, ensuring projects, tasks/activities stay within budget and schedule.
Product Lifecycle Management:
• Oversee the entire product journey from early development phases to production launch, including ideation, design, prototyping, fault isolation, testing, production, and aftermarket support.
Continuous Improvement:
• Monitor product performance post-launch and recommend updates or enhancements based on internal or external customer feedback.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education"
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or related field applicable to this position from an accredited university or college.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in engineering principles, and product development processes.
• Able to read and interpret Mechanical Drawings, Electrical Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
• Understanding of Military and Industry Specifications, Standards, and FARs as they apply to the development of electronic equipment and circuit card assemblies.
• Experience in formally changing designs involving Configuration Management principles.
• Comfortable with managing activities and tasks, managing timelines, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
• Acumen to troubleshoot complex technical issues and optimize designs.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with the specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, technology, consumer goods) and regulatory standards.
Work Environment
Product Engineers work in an office environment, with occasional on-hands support in manufacturing settings. There is travel at times for client consultations or site visits.

Desired Characteristics:
• Analysis experience with Mechanical design, Integrated electronics, and circuit card assemblies.
• Working knowledge of complex avionics systems and their components.
• Experience with test system design and development for integrated electronics and circuit card assemblies.
• Experience in manufacturing environment of electronic hardware and circuit boards.
• Familiarity with aerospace & defense standards, materials, and manufacturing industry processes/practices.
• Self-starter who takes ownership of product line and is committed to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience with Six Sigma (green or black belt).
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• High attention to detail.
