Position Summary
Analytics & Innovation (A&I) is on a mission to create trusted and reusable data products that will connect our value chains and support our strategic commitments. Our vision of a data product strategy moves us to a full value chain mindset across data products where these trusted data assets support the integrated value chains. This is an exciting and challenging time, and we need an experienced Product Owner to lead a capability-driven product team focused on enterprise data discovery, data architecture, and data engineering enablement for A&I data products. The Product Owner partners closely with Data Product Managers, platform teams, architects, data engineers, and business-facing product teams to translate data strategy into tangible, consumable discovery capabilities that accelerate use-case delivery, improve data trust, and reduce duplication across the portfolio. The “product” in this role is not a single application, but a set of shared data discovery capabilities that enable reusable, well-architected data products across Commercial, Midstream, Refining, and Corporate Functions.
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for continuous delivery of value to the customer through compelling and empowering customer experiences, accountable for a complex/ critical product, or multiple related products (within a product family/portfolio).
• Has accountability for leading the development of product roadmaps, prioritizing feature releases, and aligning them with business objectives. Drives cross-functional collaboration to gather insights, prioritize initiatives, and plan releases effectively.
• Collaborates closely with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives to proactively identify and address challenges that arise during product development, ensuring successful execution of the product strategy.
• Engages senior cross-functional leaders and proactively addresses and resolves issues, fostering effective communication, and promoting alignment between business and operations teams, UX design, product, engineering, analytics, and customer support teams.
• Organizes stakeholder priorities and works with teams in order to align needs with resources ensuring cadence with customer value, business value, and strategic fit. Consults with the team during planning and grooming sessions and signs off on solutions.
• Prioritizes product backlog, processes, and release plan (for multiple features for a complex or higher profile product) and plans the coordination of interdependencies with scrum team, across other lines of business.
• Works with other teams, ensures team is aligned around similar goals and objectives / cross-team prioritization. Carries out ongoing analysis of product capability themes in order to support product direction.
• Delivers product innovation, definition, deliverables planning (roadmap), and design of entirely new products to deliver against team and company goals.
• Interprets and communicates product development builds on cross-departmental knowledge and puts the customer at the heart of all product changes.
• Identifies common client pain points and opportunities and defines right solutions to address; captures stakeholder concerns and implements refinements; serves as the voice of the client, bringing that perspective back to internal stakeholders; serves as an Agile product develop champion across department and/or company.
• Owns the vision, roadmap, and backlog for enterprise data discovery capabilities, including data architecture patterns, data onboarding pipelines, metadata management, discoverability standards, and reusable data engineering frameworks.
• Defines capability outcomes and success measures tied to data product reuse, time-to-data, data accessibility, and quality/adherence to architectural standards.
• Partners with Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Platform, and Governance teams to ensure discovery capabilities are scalable, composable, and aligned to enterprise data strategy.
• Translates business demand for analytics and AI into upstream data discovery and engineering requirements that enable multiple downstream data products.
• Establishes and maintains clear product boundaries between data platforms, foundational data capabilities, and business-facing data products.
• Drives consistent discovery patterns (naming, metadata, lineage, contracts, and quality signals) to improve trust, usability, and reuse of data assets.
• Manages cross-product dependencies and sequencing to ensure data discovery capabilities are delivered ahead of or in alignment with consuming data products.
• Acts as a strategic advisor to Data Partners and Product Teams on how to leverage shared discovery capabilities rather than building point solutions.
• Ensures backlog items are capability-oriented (value, reuse, enablement) rather than solution-specific or one-off implementations.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience
• Product Owner certification required; Product Management certification preferred.
• 7+ years of relevant product owner experience required.
• Experience owning capability-based or platform products, particularly in data, analytics, or engineering domains.
• Strong background working with data architecture, data engineering, and/or analytics teams in an Agile delivery model.
• Demonstrated experience enabling reusable, shared services that support multiple product teams or business units.
• Experience translating enterprise data strategy into executable roadmaps and incrementally delivered capabilities.
• Familiarity with data discovery concepts such as metadata management, data lineage, data contracts, data quality signals, and domain-oriented data products.

It encompasses familiarity with the features, functionalities, applications, and specifications of the products offered by companies operating in that industry. Industry product knowledge is crucial for professionals working in sales, marketing, customer service, product development, and various other roles within a company. It enables individuals to effectively communicate the value propositions of products, address customer inquiries, identify market trends, make informed business decisions, and contribute to the development and improvement of products and services within the industry. This knowledge often requires staying updated with the latest advancements, technologies, and market dynamics within the specific industry domain.
Product Development – The creation, innovation, enhancement, or improvement of an existing product, or developing an entirely new kind of product to satisfy the requirements of its end-users.
Product Lifecycle Management - The handling of a good as it moves through the typical stages of its product life: development and introduction, growth, maturity/stability, and decline.
User Experience (UX) – User Experience (UX) refers to the overall experience that a person has when interacting with a product, service, or system, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
7+ years of relevant experience
