Position Overview

The Director, of Learning & Development oversees service delivery trainings for AmeriCorps will oversee the learning and development experience for AmeriCorps members that prepares them to serve as idealistic leaders and practitioners focused on strengthening schools and supporting students to improve performance, while managing all data evaluation efforts.

In this role, the L&D Director builds strategic relationships with district and local partners, works closely with the Impact Department, and manages Impact Analytics and instructional coaching staff members.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Learning and Development Director oversees service delivery trainings for AmeriCorps while managing all data evaluation efforts:

Corps Member Development

·Execute all training for AmeriCorps members, including events such as Pre-Service Training (3 weeks in July-August), a Mid-Year Summit (January), and ongoing trainings year-round (weekly - September, 2 days per month – October-May).

·Work with the Impact staff to develop a comprehensive learning and development program for AmeriCorps members that varies for high school and college graduates.

·Provide targeted trainings to support AmeriCorps members in their implementation of whole school supports and individual student academic interventions.

·Work with Impact staff to identify training needs for AmeriCorps members and assess needs on an on-going basis.

·Coordinate Returning AmeriCorps Member leadership development training (July).

·Serve as site point for the Leadership After City (LACY) program. Includes Career Affinity Groups, a Mentoring program, plus other workshops designed to support the professional development of AmeriCorps Members.

·Utilize feedback gained in coaching sessions by Impact staff to improve supports and training for AmeriCorps members.

·Serve as site point and ensure the successful implementation of the Idealist Journey (a civic reflection program for AmeriCorps members) and Justice Talking.

Analyzing and Evaluating Data

·Lead the site’s evaluation efforts, overseeing all evaluation tools and resources.

·Ensure all deadlines for data collection and analysis are met.

·Facilitate the data collection process at the individual schools and with the Cleveland City School District.

·Coordinate the collection and analysis of all data required by stakeholders, including City Year, AmeriCorps, school district and funders.

·Distribute and collect start of year, mid-year, and end of year surveys to AmeriCorps members, teachers, principals, and school liaisons.

·Analyze student-level data and various survey data to assess impact of specific programming.

·Manage and monitor cyschoolhouse (City Year’s internal online database), including data entry, as well as train and support staff and AmeriCorps members on its use.

·Create a data driven culture and decision-making environment that helps improve real-time service delivery and identify best practices.

·Serve as site evaluation point to our national Impact Team and participate in regular national conference calls with other site representatives.

·Use data strategically to help inform service delivery, learning, and development to ensure corps members are committed to student success and equipped to meet City Year standards as practitioners in schools.

Program and Service Operations

·Assist with all AmeriCorps member operational aspects of the Impact department.

·Work with City Year Headquarters to share best practices in training and to continue to develop the Learning and Development program

·Coordinate training needs with City Year Cleveland Impact Team to ensure efficient use of resources.

·Support and facilitate staff professional development and training opportunities in partnership with the Managing Director of Impact and Chief of Staff.

Manage External Speakers and Develop Relationships

·Identify key people in the Cleveland area who can support the Learning and Development program and provide high quality learning and trainings to AmeriCorps members.

·Develop and manage external relationships with trainers across the Cleveland area.

·Identify, screen, and secure all external and internal trainers.

Participate in Organizational Initiatives

·Devote up to ten (10) days a year to corps member recruitment interviews.

·Attend and help mobilize team for whole site events like Opening Day, MLK Day, Annual Fundraiser Gala, Graduation, and other site-wide designated events.

·Participate in relevant network-wide meetings and calls providing insight, feedback, and collective problem-solving.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Candidates with a background in education or teaching preferred.
• City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of educational systems and youth development.
• Training experience in the education, non-profit, or corporate sector.
• Ability to design interactive trainings with practical outcomes for adult learners
• Experience coaching young people and working with diverse populations.
• Commitment to and experience with community service, national service, and/or the development of young people as leaders.
• Ability to analyze data to identify trends, cause-effect relationships, and opportunities for improvement.
• Thrives in diverse, youthful, high energy, entrepreneurial, diverse, and fast-changing environment.
• Excellent written and oral skills, partnership-building, and event planning skills.
• Proven management capabilities, ability to work on a team, and attention to detail.
