The opportunity
As Manager, Research Infrastructure, you will lead the development, operation and optimisation of the University’s research infrastructure environment, including research computing, data storage, networks and associated services. This is a newly created role with the opportunity to build a new team and help define how research infrastructure is delivered in a modern, research-intensive university.
You will play a central role in shaping and operationalising Sydney Research Cloud, a flagship Digital Sydney initiative and multi-year program designed to deliver an ecosystem of user-friendly, scalable and secure research computing platforms and services. Going beyond traditional high-performance computing, this initiative will broaden the University’s research computing capability, support emerging use cases including AI-based research, and help create the foundations for innovation and collaboration at institutional, sector, state and national level.
What you’ll do
• Lead strategy, planning, delivery and ongoing optimisation of research infrastructure services.
• Build and lead a new specialist team across research computing, storage and service integration
• Partner with researchers, ICT teams and senior stakeholders to align infrastructure with research needs.
• Oversee performance, governance, security, vendor engagement and continuous improvement
• Support the successful operationalisation of Sydney Research Cloud and related infrastructure initiatives
What we’re looking for
• Strong experience managing research infrastructure in a research-intensive environment.
• Deep technical knowledge across HPC, storage, research networks and associated services.
• Proven people leadership experience, including building teams and leading specialist capability.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to balance strategy with operational delivery
• Sound understanding of cybersecurity, compliance, risk and service management in complex environments
