Position Overview

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical track faculty position in Dermatology and Otology. The appointee will contribute to the continued growth, development, and management of the Dermatology and Otology Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.  The successful candidate will join an existing dermatology faculty member, working collaboratively to provide opportunities for shared clinical responsibilities, teaching, and programmatic development, with the goal of expanding and strengthening clinical, educational, and scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will be assigned approximately 60-65% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students, didactic and laboratory teaching and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical-track faculty, but clinical research, including collaboration with other scientists, is encouraged.    This faculty will be expected to advise graduate students, supervise resident research, and publish  in peer-reviewed journals. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.

The Dermatology and Otology Service is located in a brand-new suite within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center and referral center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including video-otoscopy, video-dermoscopy, digital radiography, computed tomography, 3 Tesla MRI as well as endoscopy, cystoscopy, laser lithotripsy, laparoscopy, ultrasonography, after hours urgent care, and small and large animal emergency and critical care.

Performance Objectives

TEACHING DUTIES

• Clinical teaching of professional students, residents and interns in the Dermatology and Otology Service, in conjunction with the diagnosis and treatment of patients presented to The OSU Veterinary Medical Center.

•  Didactic and laboratory teaching of professional students in the college’s new competency-based veterinary medical curriculum.

CLINICAL SERVICE AND OUTREACH DUTIES

• All aspects of patient care associated with an active Dermatology and Otology practice including patient management, client care, communication with referring veterinarians, consulting with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, and participation in public relations activities.

• Faculty are expected to maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio.

RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY DUTIES

• Conduct clinical research, publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and other scholarly activities consistent with a clinical tract faculty member.

• Although funded research is not required for clinical track faculty, participation in collaborative research projects and resident and graduate student projects is strongly encouraged.

• Model and promote a culture of collegiality, professional citizenship, and collaboration in all academic endeavors to facilitate an excellent workplace atmosphere conducive to effective learning, scholarly achievement, and a high level of job satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. The candidate must have completed or be actively enrolled in an ACVD, ECVD, or AiCVD residency and be board-certified or board-eligible at the time of hire.
