Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Body PE Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Body Innovation Group (BIG) Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to generate & facilitate outputs of BIG to assess, develop, and implement new technologies for Body Production within Toyota Manufacturing sites across North America.
What you’ll be doing
• Assess and develop technical solutions to Body Manufacturing problems or new business needs.
• Create technical documentation explaining how to replicate a developed solution.
• Lead and support troubleshooting of developed solutions.
• Collaborate with PE and manufacturing stakeholders to develop process plans and assure quality.
• Work with Vendors to adapt solutions to Toyota spec equipment.
• Collaborate with TMC counterparts to coordinate study and problem-solving efforts.
• Support the BIG Manager as a technical resource within your team.
• Support the BIG Manager with tracking and achievement of KPI.
• Contribute to business process kaizen and standardization efforts within BIG.
• Take on challenging assignments in pursuit of ever-better cars.
• Support process team installations and trial activity.
• Support work at machine vendors, Toyota Manufacturing And R&D locations including in Japan.
• Work location Production Engineering Manufacturing Center (PEMC), Georgetown, KY.
• Track and manage KPI for self – evaluating progress during multiple lab development iterations.
• Perform body manufacturing feasibility studies and option comparisons.
• Provide overall technical leadership of architecture and process RJ for the assigned technology or solution.
• Work with other Toyota entities including Design, Planning, VPPE, Stamping, Paint, Assembly, NAMC pilot teams to resolve design /vehicle problems / quality/ etc. issues.
• Responsible for management level report-out on project status, including executive level reporting as needed.
What you bring
• Bachelor’s in Engineering plus 2 years’ experience in Automation or Engineering; or Associate’s in Engineering or related field plus 4 years’ experience; or 8 years of relevant technical experience in Automation or Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of Project experience with automated and Robotic process equipment.
• Must have general vehicle body structure & processing knowledge.
• Have knowledge of CAD design for rapid prototyping and equipment design.
• Have working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and other automation skillset.
• Have basic knowledge of coding or software development.
• Ability to travel up to 25% to support work at machine vendors, Toyota Manufacturing and R&D locations including in Japan.
• Must be willing to work up to 30% of overtime. During peak period must be able to work up to 50% or more including weekends, holiday periods, and shutdown periods to support Project work, installations or trial activity.
• Must have the ability to work late evenings, generally 5PM-9PM EST to support, and attend meetings with overseas stakeholders.
This position will be located in Georgetown, Kentucky (PEMC).
Added bonus if you
• Master’s degree in Engineering which includes Manufacturing, Automotive, Computer, Civil, Aerospace, Mechatronics and Chemical or other related technical disciplines.
• 2+ years of experience in Body PE Process Engineering group.
• 2+ years of experience in New Model Body shop production readiness.
• Other experience from a manufacturing discipline, such as Stamping, Painting or Assembly.
• At least 1 year of experience in Toyota Body PE Engineering.
• At least 1 year of Project experience with Manufacturing Equipment Installation support.
• Completion of TBP through panel.
• ICT experience.
