Postdoctoral Fellow - Krawczyk Laboratory
About this role
Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. We are pioneers in the fight against cancer, Parkinson's, and other diseases. We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and educators.
The laboratory of Dr. Connie Krawczyk at the Van Andel Institute (VAI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. The Krawczyk lab aims to understand the mechanisms that regulate immune cell function, with an emphasis on epigenetics and cellular metabolism.
This postdoctoral position is available immediately for a motivated PhD who has graduated within the past year or will graduate in 2026 and meets the qualifications and description outlined below. The primary project will be related to the function of epigenetic modifiers in myeloid cells with a focus on bone marrow monocytes and dendritic cells (PMID: 37018401, 39052479). The candidate should have interests in cellular programming mechanisms that drive cellular differentiation decisions and function. Experience in investigating mechanisms is essential. Expertise in metabolism and/or epigenetic programming are assets.
The candidate will work with Dr. Krawczyk and her research team to identify areas of interest and expertise that will facilitate the highest level of contribution to reach overall project objectives.
Why choose the Krawczyk Lab?
• As a postdoctoral research fellow in the lab, you will have the opportunity to develop expertise in epigenomics, metabolomics, and mouse models disease.
• The Krawczyk lab is a strong team environment using a collaborative approach to most projects.
• Individualized training and development plan will be established and customized considering the individual’s career goals.
• Collaborations will be encouraged, and conference attendance strongly recommended.
• Dr. Krawczyk Lab is part of the T32 program at VAI. Eligible candidates interested in this program are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
• A PhD in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, epigenetics, human genetics, physiology, molecular biology, or a relevant discipline.
• Independent and motivated with strong communication skills and a true interest in molecular mechanisms that regulate immune cell function including, epigenetics, metabolism, pattern recognition, and disease physiology.
• Record of productivity.
• Organized, efficient and results oriented.
• Leadership skills
• Ability and willingness to approach science and day to day activities with a collaborative mindset as a team player.
As the ideal candidate, you may also have:
• Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.
• Experience using scripting languages (e.g. R, python) and analyzing NGS data (e.g. RNAseq, ChIPseq, ATAC, Hi-C)
• Knowledge or experience with myeloid cells, osteoclasts or other immune cells.
While this project is currently funded, an integral part of postdoctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application. All VAI Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical and reasonable after hire. Receiving a fellowship award provides recognition for both the fellow and VAI.
