Job Description:

Position Overview:

In this job, you will perform and support research activities pertaining to data analytics at the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) under the direction of the Scarborough Health Network Research Institute (SHNRI) and principal investigators for research studies. The SHNRI is dedicated to supporting SHN researchers and their teams in achieving their research goals. It provides the necessary oversight and guidance to ensure regulatory compliance, grant administration, and quality control in study conduct. This role supports data analytics in research at SHN, including collaboration with investigators, trainees, and internal and external partners.

This role will be focused on supporting research at SHNRI through full data pipeline processing and analysis guided by research protocols. This will include electronic health record database queries, data processing and cleaning, planning and fitting models ranging from machine learning to Bayesian analyses to more conventional statistics, crafting tables and figures, and supporting the integration of these materials into research outputs such as grants and manuscripts. The role will have the opportunity for the development of methodological and data-analytics-related research topics, and the successful applicant is anticipated to be a co-author on all projects to which they contribute where they meet the ICMJE criteria for authorship.

They will be required to use their computational and statistical expertise to support the data analytics aspects of research at SHN. The individual must abide by and adhere to hospital and RI policies and procedures with regards to various sources of information such as health records and databases and maintain the confidentiality of patient files and study data. This role will be a hybrid role and will require travel between and working at all 3 SHN sites.

Responsibilities:

• Build database queries to acquire information from the electronic health record, according to REB-approved case-report forms and research protocols

• Process and clean the acquired data as needed according to the planned analyses

• Store and handle all data in a secure and REB-approved manner

• Collaborate with clinicians to troubleshoot queries and ensure that the queries return the expected information

• Advise collaborating investigators and trainees regarding potential statistical models based on their proposed research question or protocol

• Lead the drafting and creation of statistical analysis protocols

• Code and perform analyses according to protocols

• Fit models using a range of quantitative techniques ranging from machine learning to Bayesian analysis

• Craft tables, figures, and results according to research protocol specifications

• Collaborate with research teams to refine statistical analysis plans and outputs

• Support data analytical aspects of REB submissions

• Ensure maintenance of an accessible and organized code base to reduce duplication of effort and support principles of open science and reproducibility

• Provide orientation and training to new team members regarding the structure and operating procedures of the research team in regards to data analytics

• Support the preparation of grants and manuscripts by preparation of tables and figures, critical interpretation of results, crafting of methods section and limitations text

• Estimate the time requirements for proposed or future work relating to data analytics to support grant proposals and budgeting

• Support the overall academic development of SHN by providing data analytics and statistical feedback on academic work by trainees

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science or other quantitative field

• 4 + years of experience and/or education

Nice to have:

• PHD in Statistics, Data Science, Compute Science or other quantitative field

• Experience with Epic databases including Clarity and Caboodle
