• Base Salary $156,103 - $179,998 (pro rata for 0.60 FTE) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
Sydney School of Public Health is Australia’s first and leading school of public health. We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Sydney School of Public Health to drive a mixed methods research project examining the social and behavioural drivers of Hendra vaccine uptake for horses. The position requires strong engagement with industry stakeholders, an intimate knowledge of the Australian horse industry, and sound knowledge of Hendra virus transmission dynamics and prevention measures to inform high-quality, impactful research outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
• conduct original research independently and as part of a research team, with a focus on high-quality publications, conference presentations and research impact
• examine the drivers of Hendra vaccine uptake for horses using mixed methods research approaches
• maintain an active research profile through publication of peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference or seminar papers
• develop and maintain research collaborations and contribute to translational research that informs policy, practice, industry or community outcomes
• contribute to applications for competitive research grants and other funding opportunities
• maintain quality, standards and excellence in all research activities and outputs
• provide informal mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics and contribute to the supervision of postgraduate research students or projects, where appropriate
• carry out administrative tasks and contribute to faculty and school meetings
• contribute positively to workplace culture, valuing diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence and achievement of outcomes
• understand and contribute to the University and faculty/school strategic agenda
• communicate research expertise through engagement with industry, public forums, seminars, conferences and public events
• undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate to the classification level as required.
About you
• a PhD or equivalent qualification in public health, social science, ecology or a related discipline
• demonstrated experience conducting surveys and qualitative interviews with horse owners and equestrians
• intimate knowledge of the Australian horse industry and strong understanding of factors influencing Hendra virus vaccination uptake
• demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis and desirable qualitative analysis skills grounded in social science methodologies
• experience developing or adapting research methodologies and applying them
• demonstrated experience preparing ethics applications for Human and Animal Research Ethics Committees
• proven ability to effectively manage research projects to completion
• evidence of a developing or established research profile, including preparation and editing of manuscripts for publication as lead and coauthor
• strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with academic, industry and community stakeholders
