Position Summary
Research Technician to work on the production and analysis of antibiotic-like compounds produced by non-pathogenic soil bacteria.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Conducts, evaluates, and maintains experiments; collects data and performs analysis.
• Data management.
• Maintains safe and clean lab space.
• Trains and manages undergraduates in conduct of research.
• Restocks chemical and consumable inventories.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
• Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
• Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
• Experience in sterile technique, molecular biology, and basic biochemistry.
• Good communication, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task effectively.
• For applicants with molecular biology or biochemistry backgrounds, expertise in routine plasmid construction, PCR experimental design and execution, clone library construction, and/or protein expression and affinity purification are critical; proficiency in bacterial genetics is strongly desired.
• For applicants with a more chemistry background, expertise in using reverse phase and/or normal phase chromatography, HPLC/MS use and maintenance is needed; specific experience with small molecule chromatography/purification/quantification is strongly desired.

Salary Range
$16.92 - $26.44 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
