The Research Manager for the Center for Public Health Practice (CPHP) will play a central role in supporting and advancing CPHP’s research and education/training program through grants, partnerships, and program development activities. Working closely with the CPHP Director and other College of Public Health research and education leaders, this position supports a highly collaborative, service-focused, and academically productive research and practice center. They contribute to the strategic growth of CPHP’s research and training enterprise by providing high-quality administrative, analytical, and coordination support across a diverse portfolio of sponsored projects and interact with public health department leaders at the city, county and state level within and outside Ohio, including Ohio Health Commissioners and leadership at the Ohio Department of Health, among other health-related state agencies.
Manages and administers research programs and the evaluation of health-related programs and activities. Represents the center in working with funding agencies and developing financial resources and programs. Collaborates with faculty and staff members on developing and implementing research programs and agenda. Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, policies and sponsors related to research. Will serve as PI on funded projects on occasion. Supports researchers with preparation of grant applications to ensure timely submission of proposals. Drafts documents and assists the coordination of activities with sponsors, investigators, and other departmental staff as well as OSU entities (other departments, centers, etc.) in order to deliver complete application documents to OSU College of Public Health grants management and Office of Sponsored Programs. Creates text and populates documents with select portions of research, including literature reviews and complex methodological techniques, and program grant applications.
The Research Manager supports the CPHP director, affiliated researchers, and staff in the early-stage identification, analysis, planning and development of strategic, multidisciplinary funding opportunities. Enables and enhances the competitiveness of research programs and proposals for external support through strategic, proactive and capacity-building activities, including with current and potential community partners. Activities may include funding opportunity identification, research team building and funding, and federal agencies and community outreach, engagement, dissemination, and education/training activities. This is strategic work that enables our center’s researchers and affiliates to build a more robust portfolio about their work to create a strategic advantage when they are applying for research grants and contracts.

Utilizes business acumen and industry or discipline knowledge to directly or indirectly influence others. Manages a team of two or more individuals (e.g., postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students) who deliver work product related to an expected core competency of the leadership role.
Manages operations, front line supervisors and/or individual contributors who exercise moderate independence in assignments. Responsible for the training and orientation of 2 or more employees; reports to the center director. Knowledge of principals within body of formal knowledge or in-depth knowledge across multiple work areas. Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals. Uses judgement, evaluation and interpretation to help others select the right course of action. Impact is typically on medium-term (1 - 2 year) goals; translates goals into operational activities and guides their execution. Develops and manages initiatives to deliver results. Interacts with peers, individual contributors and stakeholders to discuss and resolve operational matters. Influences and explains to other outside of immediate area policies, practices and procedures to gain cooperation.
Other duties as assigned to support center work related to research, education, and training. These may include but are not limited to presentations, academic writing, and formal and informal teaching in person or online.
Additional Information:
Minimum Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Graduate degree in public health or related field preferred.
• 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals, with academic conference presentations, and teaching in person and/or online.
Pay Range: $83K - $84K estimated annual base salary, at a 0.75 FTE which is 30 hours a week.
Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
**This position is contingent upon funding and will end on or before June 30, 2028, with possibility of renewal based on continued availability of funding and performance.**
