About the Role

The Research Technician will support ongoing research focused on immunology and cancer biology, working closely with lab members to execute experiments and maintain critical lab operations. This role offers exposure to a wide range of techniques and the opportunity to contribute to impactful research in a fast-paced academic environment.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, collaborative, and motivated to contribute to advancing cancer immunotherapy research. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals planning to pursue medical school or graduate studies who are looking to gain hands-on research experience in an academic lab environment.

We are ideally seeking candidates who can commit to 2–3 years, with a preference for a 3-year commitment, to ensure continuity and meaningful contribution to ongoing research projects.

What You’ll Do

• Perform general mouse husbandry, including genotyping, embryo preservation, rederivation, tissue sectioning, and transcardial perfusion.

• Manage complex mouse colonies, including maintaining census, ordering, and coordinating with collaborators

• Support lab members with experiments using immunological and molecular biology techniques (imaging, flow cytometry, library prepation, PCR, cloning, etc.).

• Analyze and organize research data.

• Participate in lab meetings and review scientific literature.

• Assist with lab organization and general operational support.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field required

• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in a research laboratory

• Experience working with animal models preferred

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

• Willingness to learn complex techniques with general instruction

• Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous learning

• Interest in immunology, cancer biology, or related research areas

Physical Requirements

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances or other hazardous materials.

Compensation Range

$19.24 (minimum) - $24.09 (midpoint) - $31.29 (maximum)

Hourly

HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
