Research Trainee - Agudo Lab
About this role
The goal of this training program is to introduce the trainee to the fundamental concepts of tumor immunology, with a particular focus on understanding immune cell dynamics within the tumor microenvironment. The trainee will gain experience investigating how immune cells, especially T cells, respond to and interact with tumor cells using a combination of experimental and computational approaches.
The trainee will receive hands-on instruction in core laboratory techniques including flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, primary T-cell isolation
and culture, cytotoxicity assays, and western blotting. In addition, the trainee will be exposed to the analysis and interpretation of large-scale omics datasets relevant to cancer and immunology, with opportunities to participate in data analysis projects.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Develop an understanding of tumor immunology and immune cell behavior in the tumor microenvironment. The trainee will learn key concepts related to immune surveillance, T-cell activation and dysfunction, tumor immune evasion, and mechanisms regulating anti-tumor immunity. Progress will be evaluated through active participation in lab meetings, journal clubs, and regular discussions with the
supervisor and PI. Develop the ability to present and interpret scientific data.
The trainee will learn how to organize, analyze, and communicate experimental findings. They will present ongoing work during weekly lab meetings, where lab members will provide feedback, ask questions, and discuss future directions.
