Job Overview
Georgetown University is seeking a Senior Computing Infrastructure Administrator to help continue to architect, develop, and support reliable, secure, and cost-effective computing for the Massive Data Institute (MDI). The primary role of this administrator will be architecting, setting up and maintaining big data infrastructure components on Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure, setting up and managing the infrastructure, including the security and software, and helping MDI faculty, staff, and students get connected these systems. We have also created an on-campus HPC cluster that the administrator will extend and maintain. Finally, the Administrator will help develop a strategy for and deploy systems at various compliance levels, including HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
Duties include but are not limited to:
● Administering systems and applications, big data environment, and systems built on cloud Infrastructure like Azure, AWS and Google, including provisioning, identity management, and cost monitoring
● Enhancing and maintaining on-campus MDI high performance compute facility, including physical servers, virtualization, and storage
● Evaluating system problems of workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate corrective action
● Assist in the formulation of technical strategies and processes for administered systems
● Provide support to faculty and their teams using the MDI infrastructure
● Write, interpret and analyze technical documentation related to system administration
● Develop and monitor compliance for different levels of system security
Work Interactions
The MDI Senior Computing Infrastructure Administrator, Massive Data Institute, McCourt School of Public Policy - Georgetown University will support use of MDI computing facilities to support interdisciplinary research. The new hire will report to the MDI Director. The new hire will learn all of our existing protocols and will work with faculty and their teams to help them use the MDI computing environment. Currently, over 20 faculty use the infrastructure. This position will support the overall research mission of the university.
Requirements and Qualifications
Qualifications
● Four-year degree in applicable, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience for Redhat, Linux, Hadoop, and system administration
● Eight (8) or more years of prior system administration experience required.
● Experience with Linux and Unix operating systems and provisioning applications
● Experience with tools used to administer big data systems, including tools for automatic scaling, deploying, and managing of systems, e.g. Kubernetes
● Experience with Cloud Providers like Google, Azure, AWS
● Experience with GPU and other HPC physical machine system administration
● Experience with networking (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls)
● Experience with cluster deployment and management
● Experience with private server system administration and associated compliance (HIPAA, etc.)
Preferred qualification
● Familiarity with research computing environments
● Experience tracking resource utilization by project for cost allocation
● Multiple System certifications in provisioning technologies such as Redhat Certified, Linux+, Security+

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$80,429.00 - $157,238.93
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
