The Senior Epic Research Application Analyst is responsible for the design, build, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Epic research-related projects. This role works in close partnership with clinical researchers, physicians, operational stakeholders, and Epic analysts to ensure research workflows are effectively integrated into Epic.
The Senior Analyst serves as a subject matter expert, contributing to complex projects and cross-functional initiatives that support clinical research operations. Responsibilities include analyzing clinical and business requirements, translating them into system configurations, coordinating with other application teams to align workflows, and ensuring seamless integration between research and clinical care processes. The role also supports research billing compliance, study build, protocol implementation, and integration with ancillary systems.
This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, in-depth knowledge of Epic research functionality, and the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, build, configure, test, and support Epic research-related projects, in alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements
• Partner with clinical researchers, physicians, and research operations teams to understand study protocols and translate requirements into effective system workflows
• Support clinical trial lifecycle activities, including study build, protocol implementation, subject enrollment workflows, and study maintenance
• Ensure research billing compliance by coordinating coverage analysis, charge routing, and adherence to regulatory and institutional guidelines
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system issues; coordinate with Epic and internal teams as needed for resolution\Plan, test, and support system upgrades, enhancements, and new feature implementations related to research functionality
• Develop and maintain documentation, including workflows, build specifications, and support procedures
• Provide end-user support, training, and guidance to research and clinical staff to promote effective system utilization
• Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to enhance research capabilities and optimize workflows
• Support reporting and data needs related to research operations, ensuring accuracy and availability of required data
• Stay current with Epic updates, industry best practices, and regulatory changes impacting clinical research systems
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Public Health, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Epic certification in Research.
• 5+ years of experience supporting Epic applications, with a focus on Epic Research, Beacon, or related modules
• Experience in a healthcare or academic medical center environment, preferably supporting clinical research operations
• Demonstrated experience translating clinical or research workflows into system design and configuration
• Strong understanding of clinical research workflows, including study build, protocol management, and subject enrollment
• Knowledge of research billing compliance, coverage analysis, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CMS, FDA, GCP)
• Experience collaborating with other Epic application teams (e.g., Ambulatory, Orders, Revenue Cycle) to support integrated workflows
• Proficiency in system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and upgrade support within Epic
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred:
• Prior experience supporting Epic Research in a large health system or academic research environment
• Familiarity with clinical trial management systems (CTMS) and integrations with Epic
• Experience supporting research billing workflows and audits
• Advanced knowledge of Epic data structures and reporting tools
• Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Epic Reporting Workbench, Clarity, Caboodle)
