The Senior Azure Data & Analytics Engineer will assist the Cloud Engineering Manager design and build our Azure-based data platform, including our new Azure Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and future Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. This role will provide technical oversight, ensure architectural consistency, and take ownership of ongoing development. This role will also work with development teams and Business users to help design and support Alteryx analytics and Power BI models and reporting solutions. While currently limited to one business unit it will eventually support enterprise-wide analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Azure Data Platform Architecture
• Architect and develop Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 environments, including structure, security, and governance.
• Oversee consultant-built Azure Data Warehouse design and validate technical decisions.
• Plan for migration or expansion into Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Real-Time Analytics) as the platform evolves.
Data Engineering & Integration
• Build, optimize, and operationalize data pipelines (ETL/ELT) using Azure Data Factory, Fabric Data Factory, or Synapse technologies.
• Develop scalable data models, schemas, and structures for both warehouse and Data lake architectures.
• Implement data quality, lineage, governance, and metadata processes using Purview or Fabric governance features.
Power BI & Analytics Enablement
• Work with Business users and Development teams to optimize Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports for enterprise consumption.
• Provide best practices for dataset design, DAX optimization, and performance tuning.
• Partner with business units to understand analytic requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
Platform Governance & Operations
• Enforce best practices for security, identity, networking, and cost management within Azure analytics services.
• Create documentation, standards, and repeatable patterns for data engineering and BI development.
• Validate consultant work for correctness, maintainability, governance alignment, and scalability.
Required Qualifications
• 7+ years in data engineering or business intelligence engineering.
• 3+ years working with Azure Data Lake, Azure analytics services, or Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT background.
• Expertise with Power BI development and DAX optimization.
• Ability to review, validate, and guide work delivered by external consultants.
• Understanding of Azure networking, security, and identity as they apply to data services.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building or overseeing a greenfield Azure data platform.
• Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP‑203) or comparable certification.
• Knowledge of IBM Data Replication, Spark, Synapse, Databricks, or Fabric SQL Warehouse.
• Experience supporting enterprise-wide BI environments.
• Experience in managing Microsoft Dynamics
