THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level C.1) exists in the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University. We are seeking a highly qualified researcher to join a team with an international reputation for producing high-quality research outcomes in microbial genomics, antimicrobial resistance, and RNA-based diagnostics and vaccines.
The scope of this project is broad and involves integrating genome-scale informatics, multi-omics datasets, and experimental microbiology to address critical challenges in human and animal infectious diseases. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing RNA-based diagnostic and vaccine platforms, genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance, and translational applications in collaboration with academic, government, and industry partners.
Reporting to Professor Garry Myers, the Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow will:
• Lead and contribute to independent and collaborative research programs in microbial genomics, pathogen evolution, and RNA-based technologies
• Design and implement multi-omics analyses (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) to identify diagnostic markers and vaccine targets
• Drive translational research aligned with industry and government stakeholders (e.g., livestock health, public health microbiology)
• Supervise and mentor PhD, Masters, and Honours students, fostering a high-quality research training environment
• Contribute to grant and patent development, including competitive funding applications and industry-linked projects
• Publish high-impact research outputs and present findings at national and international conferences
• Support the development of bioinformatics capability, including training in high-performance computing and data analysis workflows
• Engage with external collaborators across academia, healthcare, and industry sectors
We very much look forward to hearing from applicants who have demonstrated excellence in their past research, possess strong technical and leadership skills, and are keen to engage in a collaborative and translational research environment.
