Senior Search Engineer (Elasticsearch)

Solvd is hiring a Senior Search Engineer to help build and optimize the services behind the food search experience for a large-scale consumer product platform. In this role, you’ll contribute to search services that integrate across multiple engineering teams, own end-to-end Elasticsearch performance and relevance tuning, and partner closely with senior engineers, product, and leadership on experimentation and delivery.

This is a hands-on role for someone with deep production experience in Elasticsearch + Scala, and a modern AI-augmented / agentic development workflow (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar).

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- We are looking for an Elasticsearch Engineer with strong expertise managing and scaling Elasticsearch in large-scale production environments. This role will focus on stabilizing and optimizing an existing Elasticsearch deployment that supports high-traffic web applications, addressing current operational challenges, and ensuring the platform can handle peak traffic events.

- The engineer will work closely with internal teams to troubleshoot performance issues, optimize indexing and query performance, and improve cluster reliability and scalability. A key part of the role will be identifying and resolving existing Elasticsearch pain points while ensuring the platform is prepared for high-demand periods.

- The environment includes a custom indexing service, so the candidate should have experience maintaining and extending similar backend components using Scala/Kotlin/etc.

Responsibilities:

- Manage, maintain, and optimize Elasticsearch clusters in production environments

- Troubleshoot performance issues and improve search and indexing performance

- Design and implement improvements for scalability, reliability, and cluster health

- Support high-traffic and peak event scenarios to ensure platform stability

- Maintain and improve the existing Scala-based indexing service

- Collaborate with engineering teams on the modernization of the indexing framework

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Elasticsearch (production + scale)

- Strong hands-on experience with Elasticsearch in large-scale production environments

- Experience scaling Elasticsearch for high-traffic applications

- Expertise in indexing strategies, shard allocation, query optimization, and performance tuning

- Experience troubleshooting Elasticsearch cluster issues

- Development experience with Scala

- Experience working in distributed systems or high-throughput platforms

NICE TO HAVE

- Additional experience leveraging AI workflows for meaningful development acceleration across the full SDLC (design to delivery).

- Prior work on search relevance, ranking systems, or experimentation frameworks in consumer-facing products.
