About this role

We have an opportunity that genuinely stands out — and if you’re a senior engineer who values ownership, complex problem‑solving, and building platforms that matter, this could be your next move.

Is this your next role?

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high‑impact change initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce cost, and create a stable, scalable platform for future growth. You’ll work cross‑functionally with our business units, helping shape solutions from design through to production, and influencing how our enterprise platforms evolve.

This is a hands‑on senior role where your technical judgement matters. You’ll be trusted to make decisions, solve real problems, and contribute to an engineering culture built on depth, pragmatism, and collaboration.

What you’ll bring

You’re a senior engineer with strong Java and Pega capability, backed by solid SQL experience, who enjoys designing and building enterprise‑grade backend solutions. You’re comfortable operating in complex environments, working directly with business stakeholders and technical teams alike.

You’re adaptable, calm under pressure, and capable of supporting production systems when needed. You document clearly, communicate well, and take pride in disciplined engineering practices.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy a fast‑paced environment and have experience with:

• Pega – ideally 3–4 years hands‑on
• Java – strong commercial experience
• SQL – ideally with Oracle exposure

Your broader technical toolkit

Our stack and problem space are broad, and you’ll likely have experience across many of the following:

• Java and Spring Boot
• Building and consuming REST APIs
• Writing and optimising SQL queries
• Oracle backend procedures and functions
• Azure DevOps (source control, pipelines, work tracking)
• Enterprise backend architecture
• System integration in complex ecosystems

Nice to have

• Banking or financial services experience
• Exposure to Oracle FLEXCUBE

Why Heartland?

Heartland has recently welcomed Andre Sampaio, formerly COO of PwC’s Global AI Factory, to lead the delivery of an intelligent, AI‑enabled platform powering fully digital, end‑to‑end customer journeys at scale.

This is not bolt‑on AI. This is AI‑first platform engineering — simplifying our tech estate and laying foundations that future teams and products will depend on.

Our engineering model is deliberately senior‑only:

• Small teams
• High trust
• Real architectural ownership
• No layers of hand‑offs

We work from the office four days a week because the problems are complex. Being together accelerates design decisions, drives deeper collaboration, and helps us ship the right solutions faster.

If you’re looking for a role where your experience is valued, your decisions matter, and you’re building platforms with long‑term impact — we’d love to talk.
