About the role
AI is becoming a core part of how we support our customers and teams and this role sits at the centre of that work.
As a Senior Software Engineer – AI within our Data, AI and Loyalty team, you’ll help shape the platforms and patterns that enable machine learning and generative AI across Bunnings.
You’ll work on meaningful problems at scale, using modern cloud and AI technologies, alongside experienced engineers who value collaboration and practical innovation.
What’s involved:
This is a hands‑on role with genuine influence across the organisation.
You will:
• Design, build and evolve scalable AI and data solutions used across multiple business areas
• Set and uplift engineering standards, patterns and guardrails to support safe, high‑quality delivery
• Explore emerging AI tools and frameworks, turning experimentation into reusable solutions
• Partner with product owners and stakeholders to translate business needs into well‑designed technical outcomes
• Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, pairing and everyday collaboration
• Improve performance, reliability and cost across platforms and pipelines
About you
You’re an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and thinking beyond a single solution. You’re comfortable working through ambiguity, take a product‑focused approach to engineering and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
You value teamwork, enjoy sharing knowledge and like contributing to an environment where people learn from each other and build strong outcomes together.
What you’ll need
• Strong experience in software engineering, including delivering AI‑enabled solutions into production
• Hands‑on skills with modern programming languages such as Python, C# or Scala
• Practical experience with machine learning and generative AI frameworks
• Experience working in cloud environments (Azure or GCP)
• Confidence working in Agile teams and influencing technical direction through collaboration
