About this role

As a Senior Software Engineer for the Observability Storage team, you will help us deliver the future customer experience encompassing all the modern observability signals: logs, metrics and traces. You will leverage AI tools to develop, test and deliver Red Hat’s open-source enterprise grade observability stack.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to take the  lead in the design and implementation, while ensuring the quality of Red Hat’s complex software solutions to solve our customers' most pressing challenges. This position exists to provide technical leadership that champions a customer-first mindset and a culture of quality within the engineering team. As a mentor and guide, a primary function is to establish and enforce quality standards, ensuring the team delivers scalable, high-quality systems that create measurable value for our users.

What you will do

• Supporting the OpenShift Log Storage Loki Operator - LokiStack integration and continued support / troubleshooting, collaboration with other Observability signal teams, Monitoring and Distributed Tracing to optimize user experience, development and enhancements of our logging stack.
• Technical Impact: Leads the design and development of software solutions for a subsystem or component.
• Ensure Software Quality and Reliability: Owns the quality of their code and contributes to testing frameworks.
• Internal and External Collaboration: Recognized as an active contributor to internal tooling or upstream projects, serving as a role model for community engagement. Often serves as a project reviewer or maintainer.
• Mentor and Develop Engineering Talent: Mentors and coaches other engineers.
• Own and Deliver Business Impact: Owns and delivers features with clear business impact, to deliver end user value.
• Apply and Advance Technical Practices: Supports and implements the adoption of new tools within their team.
• Leverage and Utilize AI Tools: Identifies and resolves moderately complex issues by implementing AI-powered agents to automate non-routine workflows and enhance existing team processes.
• SDLC: Champions and helps refine the team's SDLC, identifying areas for improvement and mentoring junior engineers on best practices to ensure a predictable and high-quality development process.

• Quality Management: Drives quality within the team by designing and building robust automated testing frameworks for complex features and mentoring others on testing best practices.
• System Design: Designs and implements solutions for complex features, making trade-off decisions within the existing architecture.
• Communication: Clearly communicates complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Produces persuasive design documents.
• Collaboration: Fosters a collaborative environment within the team while leading the design of a subsystem or component.
• Leadership: A technical leader on the team. Coaches other engineers. Sets a high standard for engineering excellence.
• Business impact: Makes technical trade-offs based on a clear understanding of which solutions will deliver the most business value to customers.
• Continuous Learning: Continuously learns and experiments with new technologies. Shares their knowledge with the team.
• Influence: Influences the technical direction of their team and adjacent teams by building consensus in broader discussions with internal customers or through active participation in external communities.
• Knowledge Sharing: Shares expertise by producing comprehensive design documents, writing blog posts, and mentoring others on documentation and communication best practices.
