Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. The Senior Staff Software Engineer, Research Systems is an experienced individual contributor responsible for supporting, configuring, and enhancing Dotmatics project pages and associated research workflows. This role focuses on hands-on delivery, close collaboration with scientists, and reliable operational support. The individual works with moderate autonomy while aligning to established platform standards, priorities, and guidance from senior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Dotmatics Project Page Support
• Configure, maintain, and update Dotmatics project pages following established standards and best practices.
• Work with scientific users to gather requirements and implement approved data structures, metadata, and workflows.
• Support continuous improvement of project pages based on feedback and evolving needs.
Scientific Partnership & User Support
• Serve as a responsive point of contact for scientists using Dotmatics and related systems.
• Respond to user enquiries, troubleshoot issues, and provide guidance on standard workflows.
• Communicate system updates and known issues with support from senior team members.
Training & Documentation
• Deliver training and onboarding for standard Dotmatics workflows.
• Create and update user documentation, guides, and FAQs in Confluence.
Platform Operations & Collaboration
• Support system upgrades, testing activities, and release coordination under direction.
• Collaborate with IT and platform teams to resolve incidents and implement changes.
Request Tracking
• Track requests, issues, and enhancements using Jira.
• Maintain accurate ticket updates and follow defined support processes.
Management Responsibilities and Policy Involvement
• Provides support to Manager/Supervisor and above. May accomplish tasks mainly through direct supervision of entry-level exempt employees.
• Accountable for monthly progress against agreed deadlines, towards business objectives. Works with manager to assign objectives for team, or for changes and updates in the business area. Works on specific projects under direction from immediate manager. Works as a project team member in Projects.
• May provide direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience; OR
• Masters' degree and 4+ years of relevant experience; OR
• PhD and 0+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working directly with scientific or research users.
• Experience using Jira and Confluence.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.

The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
