Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer DevOps.
GCCS-J is the DoD’s Joint Command and Control system of record, delivering a fused, real-time operational picture to commanders and warfighters. The modernization effort emphasizes cloud-native software engineering, microservices, advanced data ingestion and synchronization, improved data models, and enhanced user experience to support JADC2-aligned mission objectives.
Position Summary
The DevOps Engineer will plan, design, and evolve the automation, infrastructure, and continuous delivery pipelines that enable rapid maturation and deployment of capability while maintaining a hardened security posture. Responsibilities include integrating development pipelines with test‑driven development tools, implementing provisioning and deployment techniques (packaging, componentizing, cloud distribution), and ensuring rigorous Software Configuration Management (SCM), code quality, and automated testing within CI/CD frameworks.
Basic Qualifications
• 2 Years’ experience with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters
• Experience administering Kubernetes clusters (RKE2, GKE, EKS, etc.) in both air‑gapped and cloud environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Helm.
• Experience with scripting in Bash and/or PowerShell.
• Work onsite Newport News, VA
• Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated success delivering stable, reusable test environments.
• Experience integrating DoD‑approved container images (Iron Bank) and maintaining compliance with security hardening standards.
• Experience with GitOps workflows (FluxCD, ArgoCD) and package managers such as Zarf.
• Familiarity with DoD architecture frameworks (e.g., DoDAF) and Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
• Expertise in Cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, OCI, GCP) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Proficiency with database administration (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB) and networking (VLAN design, internal PKI, VPN).
• Prior experience contributing to open‑source projects and participating in code‑review processes.
• Knowledge of continuous security practices (SAST/DAST, SBOM, container image signing).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing clear documentation and presenting technical solutions to diverse audiences.
• Proven record of effective teamwork across functional groups and with customers, fostering strong relationships and delivering on commitments.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent certification.
• Top Secret / SCI clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
