Oak Valley Health, Child Development Programs, has a partnership with the Children’s Treatment Network (CTN).

The CTN Augmentative Communication Consultation Service (ACCS) program facilitates the communication of children and youth up to their 19th birthday (21, if they are attending school and were referred prior to their 19th birthday) residing in Simcoe County or York Region whose speech does not meet all of their communication needs. The mission is to promote and enhance the communication ability and overall quality of life of children and youth with complex communication needs.  ACCS is one of Ontario’s General Level Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Clinics. The ACCS team acts as a cohesive, collaborative, inter-professional team to support the AAC needs of clients and their local Child and Family Teams.

We are hiring for the CTN ACCS in York Region.

The responsibilities will include:
•    Conduct assessment and goal setting, along with the child’s team, that will meet the communication needs of the child or youth
•    As appropriate, prescribe eligible communication devices as part of CTN’s authorized Assistive Devices Program Clinic.
•    Prepare assessment, consultation, and discharge reports as per CTN ACCS documentation guidelines
•    Provide coaching to parents and members of the child and family team in order to support the use of AAC tools and strategies within every day routines/environments
•    Provide consultation across environments (i.e., home, in-clinic, school, daycare, community, special programs such as ABA) based on client’s communication goals
•    Provide training opportunities for parents, professionals, community partners, etc. to continue to build local AAC capacity
•    Participate in the supervision of ACCS Communicative Disorders Assistant(s)
•    Liaise with external health agencies, school boards and children’s mental health agencies
•    Attend scheduled ACCS prescription reviews (twice monthly), CTN AAC professional development days (twice yearly), clinical team meetings, and provincial AAC rounds (twice yearly)
•    Take an active role in performing and maintaining professional practice standards, guidelines and activities
•    Travel throughout York Region required

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
•    Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
•    Previous experience dealing with paediatric populations would be a definite asset
•    Experience working with children with special needs, including children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication is an asset
•    Individual Authorizer (IA) qualification is preferred
•    Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred
•    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team
•    Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
•    Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
•    Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
•    Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
