Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Systems Engineer – Anti-Tamper Systems/Hardware Engineer (26-206) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
Essential Functions:
• Coordinate with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Anti-tamper (AT) and C2BMC leadership regarding updates or changes to the C2BMC system
• Perform Anti-Tamper Risk and Threat Management Assessments and prepare reports for the C2BMC program
• Develop the analysis process and prepare the AT plan, and provide coordination and input for near-term fielding decisions
• Develop, deliver, and maintain the C2BMC AT Plan, C2BMC AT Evaluation Plan, C2BMC Key Management Plan, and C2BMC Program Protection Plan
• Develop, deliver, and maintain Critical Program Information (CPI) analysis, Defense Exportability Assessments, and defense export strategy
• Develop, deliver, and maintain waivers for CPI, AT, or defense exportability features
• Assess program Anti-Tamper designs and implementation plans to support verification and validation efforts
• Develop and deliver recommendations to improve program protection while meeting cost, schedule, and performance objectives
• Assess program protection and Anti-Tamper designs and implementation plans to support verification and validation efforts
• Identify risk-based technical countermeasures to protect C2BMC Critical Program Information and Critical Components
• Brief on Anti-Tamper and Program Protection requirements and prepare white papers and evaluations as required
• Support program milestone reviews and Fielding Decisions, and verify that entrance criteria are satisfied by having the Anti-Tamper and Program Protection products approved
• Interact with the customer to define SSE requirements, solutions, trades, costs, implementation, system impacts, and effectiveness
• Support the development of plans and estimates, task execution, project tracking, reporting, and risk identification and mitigation plans
• Keep senior management informed of major accomplishments, issues, and concerns
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related discipline with 4 years of relevant work experience
• Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
• Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
• Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
• Solves complex problems that require the consistent use of ingenuity and creativity
• May serve in project leadership roles and represent the organization as the prime customer contact on significant technical matters related to contracts
• The Anti-Tamper Systems/Hardware Engineer will have the following qualifications:
• A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team of high-performing individuals across a multi-site, multi-disciplinary organization
• Ability to analyze high-level needs and, through a structured and logical approach, refine the need into an evolving minimum viable product (MVP) that leads to a fielded product
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings • Able to write and implement engineering plans for a project
• Proven experience in a team environment is a must
• Previous experience should demonstrate the technical skills and responsibilities for the position cited here
• Will have previously engineered automation pipelines to enable effective development in environments with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges requiring novel solutions, fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines
• An understanding of anti-tampering and exportability concerns and how to apply secure hardware and software methodologies
• The ability to work independently and the poise and flexibility required to work in a highly dynamic environment
• Must be a self-starter who can initiate research and clearly document results
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred
• Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
• Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
