Summer Student 1 Research Trainee - Davids
About this role
The goal of this training program is to acquaint Travis Michel with basic concepts on the biology of CAR-NK immunotherapy in R/R CLL. Travis will learn basic lab techniques and will analyze the molecular interactions of BCL-2 family member proteins through experiments involving flow-based viability and cell death assays. In addition, the student will assist in analysis and interpretation of data being generated in the Davids Lab. Travis will present his research during a Davids lab weekly group meeting, participate in journal club discussions and other lab member’s research update presentations. Lastly, he will become familiar with the research of other groups from the Department of Medical Oncology, by participating in DFCI weekly New Patient Conference and other institute seminars.

· Understanding basic concepts of CAR-NK immunotherapy in R/R CLL: This will be evaluated by the direct supervisor Lara Bencsics and by the PI Dr. Davids during our regular research meetings, in which Travis will participate actively.
· Honing Lab Techniques: including pipetting, sterile technique, tissue culture work, cell line maintenance including passaging cells, viability experiments, BH3 profiling, flow cytometry including data analysis and interpretation. He will be performing these experiments with daily help and input from Lara Bencsics
· Developing scientific communication and data presentation skills. The student will present his ongoing work during the weekly Davids lab group meeting, and learn how to effectively communicate with fellow lab members.
