ABOUT THE JOB
Radar is hiring a Systems Engineer who will take end-to-end ownership of one or more system-level features — from ideation through implementation, testing, debug, and customer release. The purpose of this role is to ensure key features are delivered to customers with high quality. You’ll collaborate cross functionally with embedded software, cloud, and hardware engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of feature components. This role is a blend of systems engineering, program management, and data analytics. Ultimately, you will be leading the problem solving process, writing requirements, coordinating cross-functionally, analyzing data — whatever it takes to understand the problem and ship the fix to meet the customer’s expectations.
Responsibilities:
• End-to-end Ownership: take a feature from ideation or debug to customer release, with clear requirements, testing and cross-functional contributions
• Problem Definition: Triage the current state of each assigned feature — clearly define the problem through test data analysis and determine whether design changes, debug and/or improvements are necessary
• Requirements: Write detailed, testable feature requirements with well-defined acceptance criteria for testing to ensure the implemented feature meets both internal and customer expectations. Decompose requirements to subsystem levels to inform required component performance.
• Data Analysis: Create and run your own data analyses in Python/SQL as needed; synthesize findings from other team members. Dig into production data from stores to understand how features are performing in the field
• Timeline and Plan: Create and execute a plan for feature problem resolution and release. Communicate the plan with scope and timing to engineering and product leadership
ABOUT YOU
Required:
• You have a B.S. in Engineering or any equivalent technical discipline
• 3 - 5 years of experience working on integrated hardware and software products
• You have strong problem solving and communication skills
• You are proficient with Python
• You have strong leadership skills - you can translate between engineering disciplines and align stakeholders with different technical backgrounds or opinions
• You enjoy both diving into the details of a problem and also understanding the high level context around it
• You have experience writing system requirements, test plans, or feature specs that guide cross-functional engineering team implementation
• You are comfortable operating autonomously in ambiguity
• You have experience working across hardware and software disciplines
• You maintain an entrepreneurial spirit with a general attitude of "figure it out" when faced with a difficult problem of any type
WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Complete onboarding and security compliance training.
• Familiarize yourself with Radar’s system architecture, especially as it relates to your key feature(s)
In your first 60 days, you will:
• Dive into the current status of the feature to understand where the gaps or potential failure modes exist.
• Create a plan mapping out all required work and identifying key blockers for success. Develop relationships with key contributors and stakeholders for the scoped work
• Familiarize yourself with Radar’s tools and testing capabilities - understand existing test setups and data infrastructure, with capabilities to analyze relevant data as needed.
In your first 90 days, you will:
• Understand the full scope of your assigned feature, with a plan for maintaining high quality through the upcoming release cycle
• Lead a standing weekly cross-functional feature meeting where feature design, implementation, and test are planned and reviewed
• Create a set of requirements to outline the key performance required for your feature. Complete hands-on data analysis to characterize the performance of your feature and compare against the stated requirements.
