Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Modeling & Simulation Engineer - Electronic Warfare & RF Threat to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Redondo Beach, CA.
In this role, you will be a member of a small, high performing team responsible for high fidelity RF model development, scenario creation, designing focused vignette threads and performing analysis. The analysis includes a wide variety of threat system types and span multiple domains (friendly and adversary; ground, maritime, air and space). This drives the development of clean-sheet requirements, refine existing program system requirements, and influence the pursuit of future technologies and capabilities. You will work with other RF Analysts as well as with program and customer leadership, to recommend candidate designs, and to develop Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) at the system, mission, and campaign levels.
You will be responsible for developing new and/or updating existing performance models, algorithms, threat models, and command and control models, and integrating models into existing system simulation frameworks.
Essential Functions:
• Modeling pulse level electronic warfare using Northrop Grumman’s MATLAB physics based tool
• Modeling Complex RF environments
• Characterizing detailed threat mode architecture and response mapping
• Participate in Agile project framework (manage & prioritize workflow).
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 1 year of relevant military / professional / academic experience
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
• Must have substantial prior experience in MATLAB, Python, or C++
• Must have experience in one or more of the following:
• RF propagation physics and derivations
• Basic receiver / transmitter characterization & spectral noise modeling
• Independent performance of sensitivity and bounding analysis as a component of a study
• Radar signal processing, techniques and their effects on radar performance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Government RF range experience, or experience with radar / ESM system design and testing
• A current active in-scope U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.
• Prior experience reading pulse level (not EWIR) emitter reports (NSA Pulse, EWIR, etc.)
• Prior experience in government or civilian radar characterization activities
• Prior experience modeling radar and/or electronic warfare performance at a component, system, or system of systems level.
• Experience modeling across PRF regimes, from LPRF waveforms to mixed MPRF / HPRF systems
Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
