Tax Manager, Indirect Tax – Product & AI

Role Overview:

We are hiring a tax product leader to build and train the next generation of tax AI products. This person should bring strong indirect-tax judgment and use that expertise to help our products perform accurately and effectively on real-world customer problems. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of how sales and use tax works across multiple states, industries, and transaction types, and is excited to work hands-on with engineers, product teams, customers, and partners to train the product to perform at the highest level on real-world customer problems.

This role is centered on applying domain expertise to train the product. The person in this role will research nuanced tax issues, test workflows and outputs, provide clear feedback to engineering, and lead customer and partner onboarding and implementation efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use deep sales and use tax expertise to train the product across a broad range of jurisdictions, industries, and transaction scenarios.

• Research nuanced tax issues and apply that judgment to evaluate and strengthen how the product performs.

• Partner closely with engineering and product teams to test outputs, identify gaps, and continuously improve product accuracy, consistency, and coverage.

• Build and refine testing scenarios that push the product to perform at the highest level on complex customer problems.

• Lead customer and partner onboarding and implementation efforts.

• Own cross-functional workstreams and help prioritize improvements based on tax nuance, customer needs, and business impact.

• Work hands-on with large data sets, tax scenarios, and product behavior to identify issues, surface patterns, and improve product performance.

• Communicate clearly across tax, engineering, product, customers, and partners to align on priorities and drive product improvements.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of experience in indirect tax, with a strong focus on multi-state sales and use tax

• Experience beyond routine compliance, including exposure to substantive tax issues and operational tax considerations

• Background in Big 4, industry, or government (or similarly rigorous tax environment) preferred

• Experience working across multiple industries is a plus

• Proven experience interacting with tax authorities (e.g., audits, notices, refund claims, rulings, voluntary disclosures)

Skills & Capabilities

• Strong tax research skills and ability to analyze large datasets

• Comfortable testing systems/products and applying domain judgment to improve outputs

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams

• Experience managing or leading customer and partner relationships

• Technology-savvy with a willingness to work closely with product and engineering teams (no coding required)

• Willingness to travel occasionally for customer meetings and team collaboration
