Who We Are

We’re on a mission to make energy more reliable and affordable for more people. We provide an opportunity with storage and solar to help people access greater energy independence without the big upfront costs. Sunrun is the largest dedicated residential solar and storage company in the country and has a mission to bring stably priced resilient power to the masses.

The Vice President of Strategic Finance & Analytics (SF&A) is a key member of Sunrun's senior finance leadership team, responsible for driving company-wide financial planning & analysis (FP&A) and delivering the data-driven insights that inform strategic and operational decision-making. This leader will serve as a critical thought partner to the CFO, CEO, and business unit leaders, translating complex financial and operational dynamics into clear, actionable perspectives.

This role owns the full SF&A function — from long-range planning and annual budgeting to monthly performance reporting and business case development — as well as the financial analytics capability that supports pricing, subscriber economics, unit margin analysis, and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a complex, capital-intensive business model and is equally comfortable presenting to the Board of Directors as they are rolling up their sleeves to improve a forecast model. This role will be working a minimum of 3 days per week onsite in our San Francisco corporate office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Lead all aspects of the enterprise-wide planning cycle, including the long-range plan, corporate model, annual operating plan, and quarterly forecasts.

• Deliver timely and insightful monthly/quarterly performance reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

• Partner with business unit leaders to build bottoms-up operational plans and drive accountability to financial targets.

• Identify risks and opportunities in the financial outlook and provide actionable recommendations for mitigation or capitalization.

Financial Analytics

• Build and lead a high-performing analytics function that generates insight across subscriber economics, unit margins, and functional level cost structures.

• Modernize the SF&A tech stack, leveraging AI and predictive modeling to improve the accuracy of analytics and projections.

• Support strategic initiatives—including new market entry and product launches—with rigorous financial scenario modeling.

• Translate complex energy industry metrics and non-GAAP measures into clear narratives for internal and external audiences.

Commissions & Incentive Compensation Analytics

• Own the financial oversight and analytical framework for Sunrun's commission and incentive programs across all functions.

• Partner with functional leaders and the People/Compensation teams to model the financial impact of plan design changes and quota-setting.

• Develop reporting and analytics to provide visibility into commission expense trends, attainment distributions, and ROI of incentive spend.

• Ensure commission accruals and forecasts are accurate and fully integrated into the broader FP&A planning cycle.

Strategic Partnership & Leadership

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and executive team on financial strategy and resource allocation.

• Lead the preparation of financial materials for Board meetings, investor relations updates, and quarterly earnings calls.

• Analyze the financial implications of federal and state energy policies (such as the Inflation Reduction Act) to maximize Sunrun’s competitive advantage.

• Recruit, develop, and retain a team of high-performing finance professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related quantitative field from a top-tier university (MBA and/or CFA is a strong plus, but not required)

• 10-15+ years progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role, ideally with experience in a similar role at a publicly-traded company.

• Prior work experience in investment banking and/or private equity is a strong plus.

• Proven track record of leading Finance teams in a company with 5,000+ employees.

• Proven track record partnering with and influencing senior leadership.

• Strong interpersonal skills and a knack for productive collaboration across varying departments

• Mastery of complex financial engineering and structured finance markets, ideally with experience in renewable energy project finance.

• High proficiency in AI tools, business intelligence platforms (e.g., Tableau), and EPM/ERP ecosystems (e.g., Oracle, Anaplan, or similar).

• Deep understanding of finance as a function and handling sensitive and confidential material in a public company, and strong general business acumen.

• Ability to analyze and compile large sets of data and present effective reporting.

• Proven creative thinker with excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing AI tools to enhance productivity and streamline workflows, or possess the agility and "growth mindset" to rapidly master new AI technologies as they are integrated into Sunrun’s operations.
